Vaccinations

At Stonewall Veterinary Hospital in Stonewall, MB RC Z, we believe that one of the most important aspects of caring for your pet’s health is vaccinating him or her against possible diseases. There are a variety of diseases which affect our pets, and other animals, so proper vaccination is vital to protecting them from many types of illnesses.

Preventative Care Stonewall, MB RC Z

Preventative Care

We believe the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. Regular checkups allow us to establish a baseline in your pets’ health and make us aware of any changes that may indicate future problems.

We highly recommend bringing your pet in for regular exams. Often health problems that go undetected can become more severe issues when left untreated, so checkups are important even when your pet appears healthy.

Deworming

Deworming your pets for roundworms, hookworms, and other intestinal parasites is important for your dogs and your family. Parasites can be transmitted to people, making them very ill.

Before you start deworming your pets, it is important to test them. If you have any questions or would like to request an appointment, feel free to contact us today.

Tick Prevention

Ticks are also a problem in our area. They feed off of the blood of your pets. This is often not enough to make your pets sick. However, many ticks carry terrible diseases such as Lyme Disease, Ehrlichia, and more. Some dogs are allergic to tick bites, which causes a serious problem.

Fortunately for us, we offer a prevention (or preventative choices) for ticks. We also recommend giving them all year round because ticks can cause problems no matter what time of year it is.

Heartworm Prevention

Heartworms (or even a single adult heartworm) can cause a lot of damage to an infected dog. Adult heartworms can grow as long as twelve inches when they are full grown. At that point, they live in the heart and lungs which cause a dog to go into heart and lung failure.

It is much easier to test your dog for heartworm and keep him or her on a preventative than to lose your dog to this deadly but easily preventable disease.

Geriatric Care

Preventative medicine is important when our pets are young, but as our pets age, and become prone to certain disease processes, annual exams and blood work becomes even more critical.

Annual exams and blood work to check liver and kidney values, along with thyroid function have the potential to alert us to early changes that may give us valuable information about your pet’s health. We understand the changes your pet will have as they become older, and we also know the importance of keeping your pet healthy as they enter their golden years.
